Drumbeats!

Giving a shout-out to a Youtube channel I learned about a few days ago. Yes, it has been established that I do not have anything that can be described as a life. I will now re-establish this truth by gushing unnecessarily over the YT channel GTOger of Dallas, TX.

People who park illegally are maddening bugbears, and it just seems like there's never a tow-truck around when you need one. Well, in the industrial area of Deep Ellum, there's a parking lot for an IT company where the tow trucks are frequent visitors. Great sound effects, editing, and snarky humour to boot. This channel has even been on the news. I've been watching and rewatching these videos and loving it all. There's even a video that refers to the Sims so yes, it ties in with blog at least a little.

If this does not convince you that I am utterly lacking in a life, then I really don't know what to do with you. Hope you are all doing well. Here comes the end of July.

End of Days

Not really. It's just coming to the end of July. Halfway through my summer life, and I'm reading Mary McCarthy's 'The group'. I was certain I would not like this book, as the characters have nothing to do with me beyond my colouring. Eight privileged women and their lives through the 30s. I had a major beef with one of the characters in particular. She married someone I would call a hipster these days - a massive pain in the rear end at any rate.

However, as I continued to read, I started to change my mind. This book has become hard to put down. It's what I am currently focusing on. No heat warnings for the moment, but rain continues to be very badly needed. The farmers are considering culling their herds of cows because they don't have enough feed. Anyway, I just wanted to give you happy few a heads up. I am still very much alive and I wish you all the best. Remember to get vaccinated, wear yer masks (if you are still mandated), and keep that healthy distance. We can get through this.

A lovely visit

Met with my memère for the first time since Boxing Day last year. Thanks to the miracle of vaccination, I was able to hug her and have some lunch under her roof. She's 94 and looking forward to her 4th great-grandchild. She was as thrilled to see me as I was to see her. Then I texted my mom when I got home. She's at the lake right now. A lovely Tuesday afternoon. How are you all doing? Gotten yer vaccine yet? Please do it - such a liberating feeling.

I am reading a Chris Ryan novel and pondering the dark underbelly of international politics. I've come to the conclusion that world peace may never be truly realized as there can never be a universal interpretation of the concept. Call me a pessimist but your idea of world peace is never going to be the spitting image of mine. There will always be subtle differences.

A short entry, but I have very little else to say right now.

Political pondering

I try to stay away from politics on here because the signal to noise ratio on the Webz is already horrendous. My blog is for fun stuff like this

and this

 and this

However, I started reading 'The impeachers' and American politics is much on my mind as a result. Brenda Wineapple wrote a book detailing another impeachment trial - the first of its kind - that took place not long after the Civil War. Democrat Andrew Johnson thought himself a king, and it was up to the Republicans to take him down in flames. I have no idea when the roles changed - when the Republicans became pathetically racist and the Democrats became America's only hope for the future - for there was a time when the roles were reversed. Was it gradual or was there a big event that determined a role reversal?

Anyway, I started reading this book. Fascinating stuff thus far. I probably won't go very much into my thoughts concerning this book or about American politics in general because there's already enough noise about the matter. On the good news front, I have joined the slowly growing masses in getting the elusive vaccination card. I am fully vaccinated and I want the world (all three of you) to know it. I blasted 'Ode to Joy' earlier today in celebration. I continue to play Legends of Idleon and TS3. That's been my summer thus far.

Hope you are all staying safe and that the numbers continue to decline wherever you hail from.

Heat upon heat upon heat

We're frying these days. Anyone still out there saying that climate change is a myth? I'd tell them to go to Hell, but they can just hang around outside and get heat exhaustion right here on Earth. Anyway, I'm hiding behind my drawn curtains, hugging my beloved AC, and downing as much no name KoolAid as I need. I'm playing TS3 but I don't have any ready pics for you right now. Legends of Idleon continues to hold my interest. I don't get the concept of guilds in an AFK game. I keep having to turn people down as a result. I'm sure the developer of this game had a rationale, but I honestly don't see it. I check in, update my 'dudes', give them something to do, and then leave the game. Clicker Heroes also has guilds, and I don't get it there either.

Hail and well met to my two or three followers. Got a question for you. Would you happen to know what kind of beans go into making refried beans? I bought a tin of them today (I can fry them up and make a sammich with'em - yes, I'm weird) and I was just wondering. Of course, I'll Google the answer if it really gets on my nerves to do so. I'm thinking it's either romano or pinto beans. I fried up some romano beans and had them with curried rice last night. Rice and beans: a fine staple for centuries. I should have added more curry, I think. Anyway, now that I actually know what I'm doing as far as rice goes, I have something besides ramen to eat for lunch and dinner.

I'm off work now until the end of August. Life is there. I guess that's all I have for you guys today. I will try to stop by here more often and post the nonsense of my life. The restrictions are lifting, and we will soon be out of the woods. Keep on keeping on with masking and social distancing. We'll get through this soon.
