Ticking down

In less than 24 hours I will be in line for my first dose of the vaccine. I feel like I'm part of history right now. It may be months before I get my second dose but I can be patient. I'm getting my first dose, and that's thrilling. Monday is Victoria Day, so if I get hit with side-effects, I'll have a bit of time to recuperate. As soon I booked my appointment I felt something lighten inside me. A rare bit of optimism in these dark times. I pulled out a can of cream of potato soup and added some chicken. It tasted okay. Call me a lazy such-and-such if you wish.

Joanna Hickson's 'The first of the Tudors' blew my mind when I read it earlier this year, so here I go with 'The Agincourt Bride'. Recall that Emma Thompson portrayed Princess Catherine of France in the legendary 1986 film with her then squeeze Kenneth Branagh who played Henry V. This was before the Wars of the Roses. A fairly good book so far. Told from the perspective of her maid, which is probably the best way to go about it.

Never realized that the family duck was such an explorer.

Caught this dude relaxing after a hard day of reaping.

Some 'oh yeah' action for your approval.

Got a bad jellybean, did we?

I guess that's all I have for ye happy few. Or maybe you aren't happy. Hope yer happy and staying safe anyway. Maybe stupidity will finally win and all the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers will learn their lessons. Yeah, I can be optimistic but that's going too far afield.

Dryer is relentless

I need to check on my dryer. It keeps buzzing at me to take out the laundry. Hail to the weekend. I'm reading Norman Mailer's 'The naked and the dead'. Oof. I want to slaughter the American soldiers but I know I need to keep this book in perspective. My 21st century brain has been badly infected by PC (is that a term still used?) but that's just the way people thought in those days. Still, when one of these soldiers starts throwing around the charged language, I just want to bomb the lot of them. Meanwhile, I wasn't planning to say very much in this entry.

Entrée interdite à nouveau

We are in the third wave of the pandemic and the stupid people of Manitoba have made things frustrating for the rest of us. So we are back to various restrictions and the public library being closed again. First offence for being caught maskless should be a ten thousand dollar fine followed up by an automatic castration of the offender's entire family if they're caught out breaking the rules a second time. You are welcome to put these great ideas into play, Pallister ya worthless piece of Tory garbage! Meanwhile, I am booked for my first dose and I am eagerly looking forward to it. The end of the month cannot come fast enough for me.

Bella-Claire here does not seem to be all that pleased with my great ideas. B-C and her hubby Malcolm are the beta couple. They were the ones who wanted to go back to Al-Simhara but the game said 'No chance.' I'll keep trying. Maybe it will work one of these days. On the other hand, who would want to leave Sunset Valley for even a day? Look at that gorgeous lighthouse.

Of course, even normal fines cannot work if the cops don't ticket and fine people when they catch them. Get yer act together, guys! Anyway, there has been no mention of my school division going to full remote. Monday's when the news might change but even so, I don't think I'll have another lean summer ahead of me. The division has to give support staff a month's notice, so even if I get the message next week, it will be the middle of June by the time the layoff goes into effect. The summer will not be as lean this year, I imagine.

These two pictures I caught of regular townies doing their thing in one of my games. Enduring love and ended love.

Then again, it just could be his hair she's not into....

No going to Al Simhara

I went to nraas and they suggested I reset everything but it's still no use. I guess this one family of mine will never go to Egypt again. They also suggested I get Traveler and ErrorTrap. I guess, if you get one of those mods, you should get them all? Not that my game is buggered or anything; just a minor inconvenience.

Who taught Jesse Ball to write? Pity they never taught him how to end a story well. So damn anti-climactic it hurts the head. The dude has great style and can start and see a story through, but he is an utter fail at closing a story down. I read 'A cure for suicide' and 'Samedi the deafness' recently, and was ready to slam Ball into a door and give him a disease-laced sammich. Do I even want to try this dude's works hoping third time's the charm or should I just throw up my hands and suggest Ball go swimming with the Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water?

It rained a fair bit this weekend, and we needed the rain badly. Mom met me in the park with A&W yesterday. I think she's really looking forward to everyone in Canada getting both doses of the vaccine so we can open up and go back to pre-pandemic times. I'm an antisocial so-n-so, so this life is not nearly such a hardship. All in all, it's been a lovely weekend. I beefed up a can of cream of potato soup with mashed potatoes, cheese, bacon bits, and dill. I tried to get cheap chives but came up empty. I also made curried potatoes with beef flavouring. I've eaten plenty of starch today; that's what I'm saying.

Amazing that we're in May already. June is just under the horizon. I don't expect that there will be another lean summer in my future for 2021. The division would have had to tell us at least a week ago if there was in fact a plan to let the support staff go a month early. I guess they could still let us go at some point in June, but it seems doubtful at this point. There's a rumour that the 7s and 8s will be back full-time at some point, but that just seems like madness.

This dude has it down; anybody for a swim?
