Several words

MERRY CHRISTMAS! I finally got all my shopping done. It's just a matter of wrapping things up in my usual half-assed manner.

2024. Hope the situation of the world is better in the new year. The school year was such that our cut off date was the 22. Yikes. Well, at least we'll have lots of time to relax in January.

To the few who actually still read this blog; I wish you happy holidays; get plenty of good food and rest in ya. See you in 2024.

Wednesday with El Nino

Damn El Nino. The snow won't last much longer. I'm playing TS3 more often. Albion Online is falling by the wayside. Hey, I know what I like.

Just stuff

As I was able to get TS3 going again on the laptop (1.69 don't judge me), I thought I should dump a couple of pics from a previous game.

Tuesday

Cloudy outside with a rumour of flurries. Plugged in the car last night as the temp dropped to appropriate levels. Just writing nothing in particular while band class performs passably. They are right next door, so that's all I can hear right now.

Here comes December. Yeah, no shopping done yet. No list made. Meh. Hoping ye few are well.

5 a.m.

On a Sunday morning, after we got a bit of snow, my neighbour's doing his helpful routine by blowing the snow away. Nice and helpful, but loud enough not to be appreciated at 5 in the morning.

I'm alive and doing all right. Been looking into the discography of the Cardiacs. Never realized how many of the Mare's post titles and projects were so deeply influenced by the band. Such stoneage dinosaurs. Anyway, Xmas is less than a month away.

Still messing with Albion Online. The chat is mostly trans talk with dumbasses popping in from time to time with political garbage. The game is fun anyway. Hit a bit of a personal high after I had a crafting success in the game. I'm nowhere near the amount needed to get a free month of premium; but I'm on the way.

I hope my few viewers (assuming I have any) are doing well.

Thank ye!

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm especially grateful that I did not appear to get a concussion after I banged my poor brainbox yesterday. I'm also grateful that Austen's 'Persuasion' is behind me. Nothing could persuade me to read it again.

Dinner at Mom's this evening. Neko's wandering around wondering why I haven't yet fed her. About half an hour to go before then. Nothing like a four day work week. The weather is going to be nice this week coming up. Another thing to be grateful for.

All the best to you, my two or three followers. If you're from the States, your turn will come for the turkey! So, that's all for now

Austen

So I started reading 'Persuasion' by Jane Austen. The last published book by most authors is usually worth looking into. Perhaps not Robert Jordan's last efforts (but Sanderson took over that ponderous task), but I haven't wasted my time with Wheel of Time since 'Crossroads of twilight'. I think that's what it was called

But back to Austen. Before I took up 'Persuasion', I read a book called 'Victorian religion'. All the authors of the time discussed vicars and curates in their novels. Austen was no different. I wonder if she mentions them in this novel. Oh, and I hope the two or three followers still wasting their time have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We celebrate it in October, y'see. My cat is getting peckish. Pain in the butt. About an hour to go before breakfast.

At long last

Finally sitting down with Stacey's 'A very double life'. I've been intrigued about this book since I heard Christopher Plummer's take on Robertson Davies' take on Mackenzie King. Talk about hearsay, amirite? I have wanted to read this book for a while.

Now I have it here thanks to the WPL. I don't plan to buy a copy. This reading will be enough. Hello to Wednesday!

Sir Wilfrid Laurier

That bio of Lester Pearson is behind me. Still my cup needeth filling. Speeches by our five-dollar face? He looks grumpy on the cover of the book. 'Canada always'. If there was anyone who believed deeply in Canada in its infancy, it was Sir Wilfrid. How would he feel about the likes of PM Deadeyes, Joe Who, John Who, PM for 5 minutes, or the PM Unnatural Disaster (and his lovely wife Mila) commenting on his great efforts?

Perhaps he is right to look so grumpy.

Anyway, that is all for now.

Mike

Mike Pearson. The Right Honourable Lester B. Pearson. Dude won a Nobel Peace Prize. Dude has an international airport (and much more) named after him. I'm reading English's 'Shadow of Heaven'. Young Pearson.

And it's Thursday. Pretty wet out today. On a political binge of late.

LED

I bought a new floor lamp yesterday. It took time to put together. Stressful. Anyway, the lamp is pretty good. Got a nice discount. Many thanks, Canadian Tire.

The kids can borrow books starting today. So far so good.

A Wednesday

Pretty normal. The kids have their first day back this Friday. Yesterday was a little maddening. Power outage, a crawl through a parking lot, and running out of time to do stuff at the end of the day.

  Anyway, September looks promising.

It seems like...

Okay. It seems like I'm letting the blog fall by the wayside... AGAIN. Well, I'm back to work tomorrow. Summer flew by stupid fast... as usual. I can't promise owt. Anyway, hope the two of you had a good summer.

Meanwhile, life's been okay. My lamp literally fell to its death the other day. I need to go buy a new floor lamp. No, I didn't it push it over! It just fell off its base and broke. 😭

  That's all.

Biding my time

I just realized that these posts have become my tweets; or whatever tweets are called nowadays. Blasts or whatever. I call them posts or entries. Anyway, I have plans to get my oil changed today. Meanwhile, the summer is half over as July inches toward a close.

I finished reading The twenty days of Turin by Georgio de Maria. A bit Lovecraftian like the synopsis promised. His essay on screamer music - that's what it was called in 1970s Italy - was the best part of the book. And it wasn't even part of the main body work.

After the oil change, I'll do a book exchange. My life is that full, folks. I hope you, the few and awesome, are having a good day.

Keeping busy

Between frying bacon, playing Albion Online, and wondering when my sim will die; my life is pretty full. I've also been reading a fair bit. I'm reading a life of Deepak Chopra and his little brother.

I've also been watching Hell's Kitchen stuff. Gordon Ramsay does a bit of yelling. I've also been watching Jolly on YouTube. Josh is easy on the eyes and Ollie is a blast. Okay, that's all for now.

It smells lovely in here

I wonder why? It may seem weird, but this is the first time I've ever cooked bacon. I could get used to cooking bacon.

Zuckerberg gives me agita

He's come up with a challenger to Twitter. That's fine. However, his choice to name it Threads gives me agita. Guaranteed I'll have a dream tonight with a nuclear aftermath theme. Ten years later and that damn movie haunts me still.

Okay. Nothing else going on.

Unfairness

Why do good people get the short end of the stick? Some very good people seem to constantly get the short end of the stick. A choice made in good faith that had great results soured recently. I know; bad things happen to good people. But bad things seem to happen more often to certain people.

  Anyway, it sucks.

All is done

Really, it's all done. Report and newsletter sent, tables labelled, and boxes squared away. Feeling pretty good.

Also, the vet says the bloodwork looks okay. Again, feeling good.

Being overdue leads to worry

My fault, but it's done. The last time I brought Neko to see the vet was in 2019. Anyway, she's having hairball issues and she's overdue for shots and a physical.

So she went to the vet yesterday. She turns 11 this fall, so the vet sent her to the back to get her bloid tested. Just in case. Also, over the past 4 years or so, she lost some weight. Another reason to test her blood.

They said they'd email the results. So I'm worrying. As is my nature. That's what's going on with me. The end is 48 hours or so away. Wow.

One week left

Before long, I'll have some TS3 pics uploaded. Right now, I've five days left. I don't expect to see many students this week. The 6s at work are doing a production of 'Twelfth Night'. It's their teacher's favourite play.

 Not much else to say.

Literary Front

It's been a while since I wrote about the stuff I'm reading. Sal Polisi was part of the New York mob. In his book 'The Sinatra club', he tells his story and discusses crime at length. This is summat of a guilty pleasure for me. One thing Polisi comes back to over and over again is that he misses the pre-tech days.

Banks that actually had money stored. Credit cards without the magnetic strip (to say nothing about the chip these days). It's not too bad of a read. Anyway, TGIF amirite?

Thursday

Cool and exciting title, eh? Rain this morning but it's tapered off. Good. Indoor recess is no less than madness at any time - worse so close to the end of the year. Why am I posting so much after ten months of silence? Ehh.

I may go silent again before long. Anyway, I'm looking forward to doing as little as possible this summer. Stuff to do with TS3 and Albion Online, I guess. Maybe some cooking. Got an idea to make homemade gnocchi this summer.

 That's about all.

Happy Wednesday!

Three posts in a row? Have I lost what's left of my mind? Bear in mind, this may not last. Anyway, perhaps you'd like to know what I've been doing of late.

Been rediscovering MMOs with Albion Online. Just yesterday I played TS3 for the first time in months. Maybe I'll have more to say later.

Accelerate

Not just the title to a lacklustre R.E.M. album. Then again, after 'Around the Sun', the quality fell off but good. Anyway, it's Tuesday morning and I'm not doing much. I was working on my year end report and I found out that my cataloging output was through the roof this year.

Pretty pleased about that. Anyway, that's all for now.
