Into February

Am I happy that January will soon be but a memory? Until more Canadians get the vaccine, one month is just like another. Until all Canadians get the vaccine, actually. I have nothing good to say toward or about the anti-vax crowd, so if any of my followers are part of that crowd, just keep moving and forget you ever heard of me. Groundhog Day draws near; time to listen to Sonny & Cher's whinging in unison about their *ahem* undying love for each other.

This is going to be a quick post. Oh, and what's this stuff about Google wanting me to join a group? I'm too anti-social for that, guys. I recently finished reading a batch of fluff called 'Planet Lolita'. You'd think there'd be more to a story with that kind of title. Nope! It was a somewhat fascinating bit of fluff that I really do not recommend. Still, if you like the concept of social networking put on paper, have at it! Now I'm reading 'Casino Royale'. I think I understand why this book was not made into a movie back in the 1960s. The censors would have flipped tables.

Okay. That is all I have for now. Stay safe and warm, ye few still in need of a good night's rest. I hope I've bored you plenty today.

A three-week pause for breath

The wise minds have decided to relax restrictions in southern Manitoba for a few weeks as our numbers seem to be trending downward. Everything is available to purchase without needing to be online for some of it. Will this three-week pause last longer? Given the way society is, probably not. For now, it's time to frolic and bust a move!

Okay, forget I said that. Geez, I'm ancient. Anyway, I would give all of my nonexistent thousands for more people to apply to supervise at lunch at my school. We need more bodies out there with the kids, honestly. I get that the pay is poor and it's only an hour or two a day; but for the love of Sri Krishna, we need more help! I wonder if all the schools are going through this right now? Perhaps our Superintendent could think about raising the pay (if just for now) to make lunch supervision more attractive. Not the easiest job to make attractive, mind you.

I'm rereading Pema Chödrön's 'The places that scare you' and I've reached the chapter where she talks about tonglen - the exchanging of feelings by breath. Breathing in another's darkness and breathing out lightness upon that other. It takes a lot of courage to do that. I haven't reached that point yet, but I am (half-heartedly) practicing bodhichitta. My miserable fragment of merit is available to anyone who needs that tiny little bit to give them the needed boost. I actually picked up some books from the library the other day. Time to focus on library books and give books from home a rest.

Anything else? No sims pics today. I've already yammered on enough.

A fine day

Because of the pandemic, I supervise outdoors several times a week. I help oversee two classes of 6s and they enjoy running around. It was a very clear sky and half-decent temps. Climate change has its moments, and it's very hard to feel guilty about such nice weather. It's been a week since the temper tantrum at Capitol Hill, and the Orange Turd caught himself a most dubious distinction. First (supposed) president to get impeached twice - let the welkin ring with schadenfreude! Next week will bring us Boring Biden. This time the welkin shall echo with relieved sighs.

My sister loaned me the two volumes of 'The Monkees' and I'm enjoying the viewing. I'm not the binging type, so it's going to take a while for me to go through both seasons. There are just two of the dudes left; long may they live! To quote the video below, "Old age shall this generation waste" but DVD's may yet save us from missing all this good taste.

A shout-out to WØEPD - Rabbit Ears TV, where I found this advert. I originally saw this advert on a copy of 'Head' - trust me; that is not a movie to miss. Flawed but interesting, said MAD Magazine. But yeah, old age will waste us all in the end. No, I'm not feeling my age. I have another 30-40 years before I should be able to complain about being old. My memère turns 94 in February and I don't think she complains about being old. Then again, this is the woman who went parasailing for the first time at 70. She's more connected to social media than I am.

No sims stuff today. Maybe another time. Just meandering and pondering meaninglessly. Oh, and the television show 'The Monkees' had its moments of good taste, for yer big fat information.

Welp, stuff went crazy

Others have spoken and written about the shameful, pathetic, hopeless temper tantrum that happened on January 6th. The Orange Freak in the White House (not for much longer, thanks Be) has these mindless thralls who share a half dozen brain cells, and a few thousand of them decided it was time to embarrass America one more time by storming the Capitol. Their rampage brought them no closer to changing the course, and Biden is STILL going to be the president. Accept it, already! Only consolation about this whole travesty? That rampage was a perfect super-spreader event. The pandemic may yet catch up to them.

Many others have also spoken at length of the disparity between what happened the other day and what's been happening with the BLM demonstrations. I won't get too much into this discussion as others have said much more and they said it much better than I ever could. Geez, it's been barely 48 hours since the whole thing happened. A boring president is needed to restore gladdening calm to the world. Biden has what it takes, I think. Here's to a lovely boring four years, America. 🍻

I'm listening to chill jazz this Friday evening and getting ready to yell at my Sims. Now, more than ever, stay safe and be well. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Welp, it's 2021

Still here, still embittered, still the loveless old hag you all know and avoid. Anyway, Xmas was okay and New Year's was okay. Back to work this Monday and my car needs servicing. I am never buying a used car again if I can help it.

Reading Ruth W. Grant's 'Hypocrisy and integrity' and feeling a little annoyed with Goodreads. What's this 'over capacity' business? Of course, I'm not the only one checking my stats and starting my reading challenge for 2021. I came in a book shy of my target, I suspect. It be what it be.

Dave Barry's review of 2020 was truer and more hilarious than anything I could or would have written. I love that man so much, and I wish him and his family nothing but the best for the new year. We need his humour more than ever. Be well and be safe, dude. Meanwhile, I'm still walking in circles and trying to keep increasing the number of steps I take every day. I hit 22000 steps a few days ago. New year - might hit 25000 before the month is up.

Does anyone want to see some Sims?

My wish is my command, and I wish all of you nothing but the best for this new year. I hope that the tiny flickers of hope in our hearts become a blinding radiance that never goes out. Be well and be safe, you awesome people. BYE.
