Louis Riel

In honour of a three-day weekend, I'm posting. I'm not going to talk about the school shooting as so many other people have said plenty and have said it better. School shootings hit close to work. It could happen to any school. I wonder if/when it will happen at my workplace. I've been thinking about the shooting in Taber, Alberta.

It happened not long after Columbine, so only Canadians would remember it. If the recent situation that happened at work is any indication, we might not be ready for the real thing. I don't want to tempt fate but... I cannot help but wonder. Anyway, I just wrapped up reading "The Antiquary". A fun romp. Worth rereading in a few years.

The temperature continues to go up and down. Aurgh, climate change. But that's all for now.

Love, reading, Black history, and Les Voyageurs

So much packed into the shortest month. The temperature keeps tiptoeing into the little numbers. I am doing well. Apologies that I really don't have much to say. Been doing a lot of reading. I like this month. I hope to do lots of reading to kids this month. "Duck! Rabbit!" is one of my selections. It's a great trompe d'oeil story. Personally, I see the rabbit first.

I also plan to read some Curious George. Maybe I'll shake it up with something from Munsch. Always a kid pleaser. That or some Mo Willems. That darn pigeon! The kids were asking me what my favourite book is. I have a top 10 list, actually. Life's too short to have one favourite title.

My favourite part of this month is probably La Festival du Voyageur. Fantastic music, burned tongues, and gorgeous ice sculptures. A shame the festival itself is extortion exemplified. Probably costs more than the furs the Voyageurs dragged to the outpost. Anyway, I hope you, my awesome followers, are doing well.

The end of January

Cold snap, eh? Worst time for the fire alarm to go off at work. Horrible time for the kids until the fire truck arrived to save the afternoon. Meanwhile, the smoke alarms at the complex have been checked. All is well... sorta. On the literary front, I've been getting into Rilke. Good, introspective stuff. Now I've moved on to summat absurdist.

Been thinking about a dude I went to school with. He died when I was in 11th grade. Every now and then, I think about the dude and wonder what he might have done had the Crab not moved in. Now I'm 45 and he would have been 47 had Grimmie not had other plans. He was a fantastic artist. Would he have continued down that creative path? Maybe settled down and started a family.

Or maybe he would have joined the group Springsteen sang of in 'Glory Days'. What might have been, amirite? Anyway, I hope my viewers are doing well and keeping warm.

Climate change, amirite?

The temperature's been up and down all this month. Blowing snow started this afternoon. All that snow will cover the intensely slippery stuff beneath. I caught up on my reading recently. Helps to read lighter fare. I updated my Goodreads today. I update it often.

Anyway, I'm reading a murder mystery right now. Read some Rilke just before that. I'd heard of Rilke before but I don't recall reading any of his works. Ergh, it looks pretty messy outside. At least I plugged my vehicle in when I got home. It's supposed to go down to 20ish tonight. Ergh. At least the kids have been going out for recess.

Nobody needs that kind of pent-up situation. That's really all I have to say. Hope my several viewers are doing well thus far. You guys are great. Here comes the weekend.

Salutations 2026!

Going back to work this week. Nice weather these days. I've been doing a fair bit of reading these past two weeks. No doorstops, however. I just finished reading a book that was more talk than action. I love detail and world-building but climactic action is welcome as well. No climax in this book. Yawn. However, the next book on my horizon looks promising.

Short stories set in Cornwall. I have great respect for the British southwest. Especially for some of the folk out there. That's all for now.
