It was on a Wednesday

So it's a nice day. Indigenous summer? Anyway, life is all right. I've been into books set during WWII lately. So the Diors were part of the French Resistance. My first encounter with the French Resistance was 'Allo, allo'. Definitely sophisticated, wot? Give me a break; I was four. Now I'm reading about more resisting the Nazis.

So, do I have followers on this blog beyond my bored two or three? If I actually do; hey! How are you? Hope my viewers had a good summer. I guess that's it. The kids are all right. No attitude yet but give them time.

Heading Back

Yup. Back to work. So I'm getting back into TS3. I don't know if I'll be posting pics of my game. We'll see. Anyway, life's been all right. I guess I'm ready to go back. That said, I wouldn't be upset if I won the lottery. So I'm reading 'The insistent garden'. Pretty meh. I'll keep at it.

I have a black thumb. Plants ain't my thing. So this Friday looks pretty good. 30% chance of rain; which translates into a 0% result. That or a 100% result. Percentages are weird where the weather is concerned. That's really everything for now.

Been a while

It's been a long while since I went to Red Lobster. There's only one of them in the province. A shame, as the food remains sensational. The service was great. That parking lot is toxic but two outta three, right? I think the last time I was there... my dad was still alive. So nine years... at least. I seem to recall going there a lot when I was younger.

Anyway, it was mi hermana's birthday over the weekend. She had the snow crab - her favourite thing. The tilapia and scallops I had were fantastic. We had a great time. I finished reading Gunter Grass's "My century". Fascinating stuff. Yeah, I'll see about finding more of his works. Anyway, it's rained a fair bit and there are no heat warnings of late. I love August.

I hope my few readers are doing all right these days. Back to work soon. Augh. I think this is the first time in years that I'm not ready to go back to work. But 'tis what 'tis.

In the air

Air quality warnings all summer long. Completely on fire this summer. Too many wildfires to count. Halfway through my vacation. Should be a fun weekend. So I went to Skinner's this past week for a hotdog. It probably would have tasted better with cheese and chili. The Philly cheesesteak I had days before tasted much better. Yay for Smitty's.

I know of Carl Hiaasen's Florida stories for kids - I have Chomp, Flush, and other such titles on the shelf at work. They don't really go out. I need to do summat about that. Meanwhile, I finished reading Star Island yesterday. Delectable look at entitled brats, the celebrity bubble, and a former governor who became a King of Florida Men. I caught a whiff of America's Sweethearts at the outset but it's even wilder than that.

Excellent fast read. Cotton candy. Summer reading definitely. I brought it back to the library yesterday. Anyway, that's what is going on with me. Hope my two readers are doing well and keeping cool this summer.

Not the only game in town

It took me years to understand that the dealership is not the only game in town. Getting my car looked at by someone else today. Perhaps cheaper... has to be cheaper. Meanwhile, summer is so far, so good. Power outage the other day... rather annoying. That's summat that hasn't happened for a while.

Reading 'Morel' by Maxime Raymond Bock. All I can think of is mushrooms. It's about a dude and how Montreal has changed over the years. But all I can think about when I look at the title is mushrooms. I've been productive over the last few days. Keeping busy with stuff.

I have not done any simming for a long time. Too busy with Breakout and Saints Row 3. Mostly Breakout. Hope ye readers are doing well and keeping cool.

3 weeks

Feeling optimistic for some weird reason. Living in a miasma thanks to the wildfires and climate change. The rain cannot come soon enough. Meanwhile, it's a fact that the Peninsular War and the Spanish Civil War are two different animals. One day I'll learn not to get them confused. Currently reading about the latter.

Duolingo has started getting on my sister's back because I uninstalled it. I'll have to reinstall it and cut ties completely. Real waste of pixels, that owl is. Yeah. 3 weeks left.

Not the most restful...

While I would have liked another week off, I'm glad to be back at work. Meetings, calls... not much time left to rest and relax. The meetings will continue for a while. It's just the nature of the beast. Grimmie left much in its wake.

I rage quit out of Duolingo this morning. Now I'm gonna make that damn owl sweat for a bit. On the literary front, I'm enjoying Garry J. Shaw's "The Egyptian myths". Well-trod ground but not entirely. Nice blast from my ancient past. Hail to Wednesday, ye awesome folks.

Hey...

So here approcheth another birthday. Another milestone. Probably the whiniest of milestones. Anyway, with Mom being terminal and unable to leave her bed, it's just mi hermana and my brother-in-law treating me to excellent Korean fare. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm also looking forward to Spring Break. I feel pretty brittle this afternoon. Pretty passive-aggressive at work. It's only Wednesday, too. Whatever. Still reading... nothing new there. Joyce Carol Oates. Meh....

I am visiting la madre today. Probably won't stay long. Pretty poor headspace right now. Meh.

Point of no return

Well, that's probably the situation. Mom's in palliative care now. The place looks nice enough. Mi hermana and I are going to visit her this evening.

I figured out something of a work-around to keep the error code from popping up. Not the most brilliant decision on my part as it's just trying to outrun the inevitable - much like my Mom's situation - but meh.

Reading a lot of good books lately. That's summat, I guess.

Shopping is not my idea of fun

Just hoping my two or three followers are doing well this holiday season. If anyone's wondering, Mom has a new walker and bathtub seat. She's doing all right.

I'm reading the 1901-1911 journals of Lucy Maud Montgomery. I had no idea she dealt with depression. Then again, she had difficult circumstances to deal with. A good read thus far.

Happy Christmas to the Mare's Nest, btw. Just wondering; could you dudes update yer blog a bit more often? Even a lazy sack like me is up to date a bit more than you.

Welp, here she comes!

Yup. If all goes well, Mom will be home this Tuesday. If she could literally bounce off the walls, she would. My delight is muted for some reason. I guess it's "until it actually happens, we'll see" with me. This road's been long and difficult for my sister and I.

And indoor recess over the last two days. Erp. Anyway, that's what has been going on with me. Also, 'Yankee privateer' is not worth reading.

A quiet weekend

I just came down with a cold. There's a COVID outbreak at the hospital where my mom is. No visiting this weekend. This is going to feel weird - I'm used to visiting my mom often. First the visits dropped to once a week from 4 times a week and now the outbreak forces a pause.

On the literary front, I'm reading 'As I lay dying'. It's the corrected text; which makes me wonder what was corrected. And will I want to try to find the uncorrected edition? There's a movie made of this book with James Franco and other people. I don't plan to go looking for the movie.

I'm still simming. I don't have much else to say about that.

Upanishads

Yeah. That's what I'm reading today. Eknath Easwaran has done something with their translation. Definitely aimed at yer regular neophyte of the 21st century. Still, their turns of speech make sense. I'm enjoying it. I don't think I've read the original take, mind you. The Bhagavad Gita is in this tradition but it comes later.

At the beginning, when the hero confronts Yama, I fear I got a DragonBall Z vibe. Goku and Lord Yemma stuff. Anyway, it rained a fair bit the past couple of days and was snowing today. Ugh. But the warmer days are coming back. They ought to - considering we're on the other side of April.

Not much else to say. I hope the few that still follow me are doing well. That's all.

Indoors again

One reprieve and then the kids were back indoors. When will things warm up enough to let all that pent-up energy outside? Is Friday the day our luck turns?

Anyway, I finished a really good book by Isabel Allende. Now I hope to find more of her works.

Thank ye!

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm especially grateful that I did not appear to get a concussion after I banged my poor brainbox yesterday. I'm also grateful that Austen's 'Persuasion' is behind me. Nothing could persuade me to read it again.

Dinner at Mom's this evening. Neko's wandering around wondering why I haven't yet fed her. About half an hour to go before then. Nothing like a four day work week. The weather is going to be nice this week coming up. Another thing to be grateful for.

All the best to you, my two or three followers. If you're from the States, your turn will come for the turkey! So, that's all for now

Austen

So I started reading 'Persuasion' by Jane Austen. The last published book by most authors is usually worth looking into. Perhaps not Robert Jordan's last efforts (but Sanderson took over that ponderous task), but I haven't wasted my time with Wheel of Time since 'Crossroads of twilight'. I think that's what it was called

But back to Austen. Before I took up 'Persuasion', I read a book called 'Victorian religion'. All the authors of the time discussed vicars and curates in their novels. Austen was no different. I wonder if she mentions them in this novel. Oh, and I hope the two or three followers still wasting their time have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We celebrate it in October, y'see. My cat is getting peckish. Pain in the butt. About an hour to go before breakfast.

At long last

Finally sitting down with Stacey's 'A very double life'. I've been intrigued about this book since I heard Christopher Plummer's take on Robertson Davies' take on Mackenzie King. Talk about hearsay, amirite? I have wanted to read this book for a while.

Now I have it here thanks to the WPL. I don't plan to buy a copy. This reading will be enough. Hello to Wednesday!

Sir Wilfrid Laurier

That bio of Lester Pearson is behind me. Still my cup needeth filling. Speeches by our five-dollar face? He looks grumpy on the cover of the book. 'Canada always'. If there was anyone who believed deeply in Canada in its infancy, it was Sir Wilfrid. How would he feel about the likes of PM Deadeyes, Joe Who, John Who, PM for 5 minutes, or the PM Unnatural Disaster (and his lovely wife Mila) commenting on his great efforts?

Perhaps he is right to look so grumpy.

Anyway, that is all for now.

Biding my time

I just realized that these posts have become my tweets; or whatever tweets are called nowadays. Blasts or whatever. I call them posts or entries. Anyway, I have plans to get my oil changed today. Meanwhile, the summer is half over as July inches toward a close.

I finished reading The twenty days of Turin by Georgio de Maria. A bit Lovecraftian like the synopsis promised. His essay on screamer music - that's what it was called in 1970s Italy - was the best part of the book. And it wasn't even part of the main body work.

After the oil change, I'll do a book exchange. My life is that full, folks. I hope you, the few and awesome, are having a good day.

My apologies

While I have yet to dust my compy and see if it works still, I still want to rule over sims so I humbly apologize for the atrocities I am going to post on this blog from time to time. All pics of sim activity will have to be, for the time being, from TS4. My shame is enduring but my laziness is worse.

On the literary front, I've started reading a Maya Banks novel. Call her a guilty pleasure if you will. I plugged in my car last night, as it was very cold out. Besides that, I do not have very much to share. Take care and stay warm, guys.
